Learning Advanced Decision-Making Techniques and Technologies through a Collaborative Project
The ultimate goal of this research endeavor is to enhance student learning of the advanced decision-making techniques and technologies in the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) disciplines. These subjects include, but are not limited to, simulation, statistical modeling, building information modeling, virtual construction, real-time sensing, and vision-based recognition. Aiming to meet the goal, the present study proposes a collaborative learning model designed to increase the experiential and collaborative practice of learning. This paper presents a survey on the current status of education of the subjects, the proposed model, and a case study. The results of the case study indicate that the model can help students overcome three significant limitations of the current learning approaches: fragmented learning, insufficient exposure, and lack of experiential learning.
