Filter Erosion in Coastal Structures
Rubble mound (and sometimes also other coastal) structures on a sandy bottom usually need a filter between the sand and the structure, in order to prevent scouring through the relatively large stones, and hence, large settlements of the structure. This is specifically the case for aprons in front of breakwaters and under toe berms.
