Shaft Sinking Under Difficulties At Dorcheater Bay Tunnel, Boston, Mass
The body of this paper will be devoted to a detail of actual experience in shaft building under difficult circumstances, but that the existing local conditions may be better understood, we will commence by a short general sketch of the work with which these shafts are immediately connected. The system of improved sewerage, now being carried out by the City of Boston, is too extensive and complex in its ramifications to be treated of in this paper; we will therefore begin at the Pumping Station on Old Harbor Point, the terminus of the low-grade intercepting sewers.
