Post-Earthquake Fire Simulations of Buildings Considering the Seismic Damage of Sprinkler Systems
A post-earthquake fire simulation method of buildings considering the seismic damage of sprinkler systems is proposed, to quantitatively assess the influences of such damage on the building fires. Specifically, a modeling approach that converts building information model (BIM) to the model of fire dynamics simulator (FDS) is firstly designed, to create the high-fidelity models of buildings and sprinkler systems in FDS; a method for predicting the seismic damage of sprinkler components is developed based on the next-generation performance based design method FEMA P-58; according to the seismic damage of components, a method for predicting the seismic damage of the whole sprinkler system is proposed to determine the worst case of seismic damage. A post-earthquake fire of a six-story office building is simulated using the proposed simulation method, which indicates that the seismic damage of the sprinkler system has a significant influence on the spreading of post-earthquake fire.
