Restoring the Capitol Dome
While most construction projects serve only as local points of interest, some are conducted on a national stage. The restoration of the U.S. Capitol’s dome was one such project. The extent of the scaffolding and the progress of the work were fully visible on various national news programs from the summer of 2014 until the fall of 2016. Very little of the work performed during the restoration could be considered typical, and all of it needed to be performed with limited effect on the occupancy and use of the spaces below. Bringing this project from initial planning to completion was a tremendous effort requiring close collaboration on the part of the Architect of the Capitol, the design team, and the construction contractor.
