Design of Marine Dock Using Concrete Mixed with Seawater and FRP Bars
This paper discusses the design of a marine dock in Miami, Florida reconstructed after sustaining damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017. This pioneering structure implements accelerated bridge construction methods using prefabricated bridge elements and systems. The structure is made of precast concrete members with basalt fiber-reinforced polymer and glass fiber-reinforced polymer bars, and concrete mixed with seawater. The structure is designed to withstand hurricane loading and the choice of materials is intended to leverage sustainability and resilience.
