Improving Infrastructure Resilience through Design and Construction Standards: Twinning of the East Brampton Trunk Sewer—The Construction Experience
The Region of Peel is implementing new design and construction standards for sanitary sewers. One of the first projects to implement the standards is the twinning of the East Brampton Trunk Sewer. The project includes approximately 5.4 km of new 1500 mm to 1800 mm diameter sanitary sewer and several custom chambers to enhance operational flexibility. Components of the standards implemented include pipe specification, pressure testing of large diameter piping and chambers, waterproofing and corrosion protection of precast and cast-in-place concrete structures, and man access considerations. This paper describes the approach taken in implementing the new standards and the challenges, resolutions, and lessons learned during construction of the project.
