In 1902 and 1903 a quay wall founded on brick cylinders sunk to a great depth, was built in the harbour of Delfzyl. This harbour is situated on the River Ems in the northeastern part of the Netherlands, almost opposite the German harbour of Emden. In connection with the construction of a new railway between Zwolle and Delfzyl (the “North Eastern” local railway), the Government of the Netherlands is making alterations in the harbour of Delfzyl, in order to make it suitable for deep-drawing ships.
