For nearly a century, the New York Times Company and its most celebrated newspaper had been headquartered in the heart of Manhattan near Times Square. But when the media giant outgrew its site and the surrounding area underwent extensive commercial redevelopment, the firm’s owners decided to construct a new headquarters building.
