Construction Control of a Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge with Space Reticulate Cable
The Tiaoyue Bridge in Dalian, China is a well-designed structure in which the cable system is designed as a space reticulate structure. For each cable plane, four main cables are combined by four huge cable clamps. Since this type of self-anchored suspension bridge was adopted for the first time, some innovative and unique problems were presented in the design and construction control. A new method named analytical element method (AEM) was introduced to obtain the optimum solution of the cable configuration, which is difficult to determine by conventional finite element method. It was also confirmed that the control method of stress-free status is appropriate in nonlinear elastic systems. As a result, the simulation of the construction control of this bridge was remarkably simplified in this way.
