In view of the interest which is at present taken in the subject of irritation development in the West, it will be well to observe what other countries have done to increase the amount of their productive agricultural land by its means. While in this paper it is proposed to discuss the methods and results of scientific irrigation practiced in India, reference will be made only to such details as may furnish us useful examples because of the similarity of the conditions under which they exist to those to be found in our own country.
