A Full-Scale Instrumented Test Facility for Airport Pavement Modeling Improvements
This paper presents the full-scale instrumented test facility of the STAC (French civil aviation technical center). This test site is aimed at improving the pavement behavior modeling under heavy loading. It is also a privileged tool for the assessment of pavement testing devices or methods. It provides on the one hand reference structures with well-known layer thicknesses and material characteristics and on the other hand strains data from embedded sensors. Finally it can also be used as a reference test site for pavement testing devices in-situ verification. It actually presents dynamical precision weighing scales allowing checking the reliability of static or impulse load measurements and deep anchors for deflection measurements in-situ verification. The paper describes first the test facility, its components, and characteristics. Then an example of in-situ verification of HWD force signal using the weighing scales and results from embedded sensors in the flexible pavement under HWD loading are presented.
