Determination of Radii of Curvature of Taxiways
A series of tests to develop the relationship between turning radius and aircraft speed, type of landing gear, total angle of turn, and passenger comfort revealed that only the speed of the aircraft was significant. The relationship between speed and turning radius was obtained by photographing the paths taken by three types of aircraft as they were taxied at a condition of impending skid over a painted grid. The paths were approximated by multicentered circular arcs.
