The Cantilever Highway Bridge at Cincinnati
During the years 1890 and 1891 the Cantilever Highway Bridge described in this article was built across the Ohio River, between the cities of Cincinnati, 0., and Newport, Ky. The terminus in Cincinnati is at the corner of 2d Street and Broadway, and in Newport it is at the corner of York and 3d Streets. The roadway of the bridge is 24 feet wide in the clear, with two sidewalks each 7 feet wide. The total length of the structure is 2966 feet. The main engineering feature is the cantilever span, 520 feet from center to center of piers.
