Investigation of Pavement Distress and Pavement Structure Design for Urban Bus Rapid-Transit Lanes in Cold Areas
Based on the local conditions, the causes of pavement distress in the existing bus-rapid-transit (BRT) lanes in Lanzhou, China, were analyzed and summarized. Based on the analyses of the stress–strain condition of BRT lane pavements and the conduction state of solar radiation in the pavement material structure, the forms of rutting, congested packs, and other road pavement distresses and the direct causes of the distresses were found. A comparative analysis of the status quo, rutting-resistant asphalt, changing the aggregate particle size ratio, and three working conditions concluded that the use of a horseshoe-shaped asphalt material for the surface layer is a suitable improvement option.
