Methods of Determining Consumptive Use of Water in Irrigation
Attention is drawn herein to some of the early investigations of the “duty of water” in irrigation. As knowledge was acquired in this field of research, attention became focused on the “consumptive use of water” or “evapo-transpiration.” Standard methods of determination of rates of consumptive use are briefly described, and the utilization of the results thus obtained to measure farm use and valley use of water is examined.
