A Case History of Geotechnical Monitoring and Stabilization of a Landslide
The objective of this paper is to present the results of a geotechnical monitoring of a landslide movement prior, during, and after stabilization and repair of the slope in Orange County, California. The slope is a combination of graded slopes and retaining walls descending from a freeway to a railroad alignment and finally down to a channel. An investigation program consisting of geotechnical borings, field and laboratory testing, and installation and monitoring of inclinometers and piezometers were performed. The purpose of the investigation was to evaluate the causes of the instability and to recommend alternative stabilization methods. The final method adopted for construction consisted of a retaining system of mini-piles and tie-back anchors.
