Laboratory Model Tests for a Strip Footing Supported on Geocell Reinforced Sand Bed
This paper describes laboratory tests results on the strip footing supported on the geocell reinforced sand bed under monotonic load. The various parameters studied in this testing program include the reinforcement width (2.1, 3.2 and 4.2 times of footing width) and height of the reinforcement (0.33, 0.66, 1 and 1.33 times of footing width) below the footing base. The results indicate that, with increase in the height of reinforcement and reinforcement width of the geocell, the load carrying capacity of the footing significantly increases and the footing settlement decreases as compared with the unreinforced one while the efficiency of the reinforcement was decreased by increasing the height and width of the reinforcement. It should be noted that only one type of geotextile, one type of sand and one size of footing width are used in laboratory tests.
