Present Tendencies of Water Power Development in New York State
The State of New York has an area of about 50 000 sq. miles, or approximately 2% of the area of Continental United States, excluding Alaska. It contains, however, one-tenth of the population and about one-eighth of the industries of the entire nation. Of an estimated central-station capacity of about 23 000 000 h. p. in the United States, more than 3 000 000 h.p., or about 13%, is in New York State, and the production there of about 6 000 000 000 kw hr. is about 15 % of the total for the entire country.
