Geometrical Reasoning and the Conceptual Design of Building Structures
A software environment is proposed to overcome the current void in computer support for the early conceptual stages of building design. This design tool would assist structural engineers and architects in exploring and formulating the structural designs of buildings by integrating spatial and non-spatial information in a seamless fashion and by communicating with the designer in a semantically meaningful design language. A brief review of design systems providing geometric representations and reasoning capabilities is presented along with the required functionality and architecture of the proposed system.
