Most case, pipeline was buried with deep cover of depth. The weight of soil just above pipe can be considered as counter weight against uplifting. For larger diameter pipe, deeper cover of depth is required. In Japan, construction cost is very expensive. These days, reduction of construction cost is one of the most important issues for Japan's infrastructure. To reduce construction cost, many construction methods have been proposed. To reduce amount of excavation is one of the solution. For pipeline, amount of excavation become very large for whole site. Burying pipe with shallower cover can cut construction cost. Even small excavation for single section, it becomes very large for whole construction area.
