Numerical Solutions for Beams on Elastic Foundations
Two numerical methods for the solution of beams on elastic foundations are considered. The first, based on the Newmark method, is a step-by-step integration process. The second method, using finite difference equations, obtains a solution by means of a set of simultaneous equations. Examples are solved, and comparisons are made between the results obtained using various approximate methods as well as rigorous methods.
