Mitigation Techniques to Improve Residential Buildings Behavior during Hurricanes
A methodology is used, for evaluating the effect of various mitigation measures on wind storm losses to residential buildings. Mitigation measures were classified into different categories such as: category A: Roof Cover, category B: Roof Decking, category C: Roof to wall connections, category D: Opening protection, and category E: Wall to sill connections. The individual mitigations were combined into different sets. These sets of mitigations were chosen for different types of structures based on engineering judgment and economic feasibility. The final output was vulnerability curves. Vulnerability curves determine the expected damage versus the wind speed. These curves are presented and discussed.
