Mechanical Analysis on Rutting Resistance in Asphalt Pavement
Rutting has become one of the most major forms of damage to asphalt pavement in recent years in China. In order to conduct a further study on the causes and preventive measures of rutting, the asphalt pavement finite element model is established using the software ANSYS. The results of mechanical analysis show that the high-value area of equivalent compressive stress is located 4∼10cm below the road surface, which is the middle course of the pavement structure . Therefore, the middle course of the asphalt pavement is the most effective layer to prevent rutting. The modulus of the middle course in freeway changes with the normal temperature(NT) and high temperature(HT) . The analytical mechanics impact of rutting in asphalt pavement is conducted. It shows that increasing the modulus of middle course material used in freeway is the most effective measure to enhance rutting resistance of asphalt pavement. By using the high modulus asphalt mixtures on the middle course in freeway, rutting performance tests is carried out in the numerical analysis.Mechanical analysis conducted is correct and effective.
