Earthwork Transportation Allocations: Operations Research
Application of the transportation technique of operations research to the problem of allocation of earthwork from several borrow areas to fill areas has been studied for a large earthwork project at Ahmednagar, India. The case study analysis showed the possibility of a reduction in transportation cost. However, it was observed that to maintain optimality of cost at all times the existing precontract procedures need to be suitably modified.
