Evaluation of Cemented Quarry Fines as a Pavement Base Material
This paper discusses the laboratory test results and field monitored data to evaluate the efficacy of recycled material used as a pavement base material. In an on-going research, Quarry Fines (QF), a residue deposit produced from lime stone quarries, was used for enhancing recycling efforts. Since QF material exhibits low strength and resilient moduli, cement stabilization was attempted to enhance the material properties. A cement-treated QF material was then used as a pavement base to support a new pavement test section (3100 ft long x 70 ft wide) on SH-360 in Arlington, Texas. The test section was extensively instrumented with inclinometers and pressure cells to monitor the performance of this recycled material as a pavement base material.
