Stability Analysis of Excavating Rock Slope Based on the Catastrophe Theory
As a complex system, there are lots of complex non-linear characteristics in excavating slopes. Stability of rock slope was analyzed with the catastrophe theory. A mechanistic model for assessment of the slope stability was derived in this paper. Based on it, the criterion for the mechanistic conditions that can cause the failure and instability of slope were inferred. Compared with the deficiency of the limit equilibrium stability analysis method applied in rigid bodies, it was proved that using catastrophe theory to analyze the stability of rock slope was feasible in practical engineering.
