Sand Mixtures and Sand Movement in Fluvial Model
The manner in which solid matter is transported by running water (leaving out of consideration material that is transported in chemical solution or by flotation), may be classified in two ways, as follows:
1.-Traction, whereby solid material moves essentially by rolling, sliding, or saltation along the bed of a watercourse, motion being produced by the action of water flowing along the inclined plane of the bed.
2.-Suspension, whereby solid material does not come in contact with the bed for an appreciable time, motion being produced by upward velocity components of the current.
