Research on Reasonable Selection of Strength on Concrete Dam Safety Evaluation
The importance of the selection of strength to concrete dam safety evaluation is first presented. We can get different results of safety evaluation according to different strength criterion. Stress analysis methods of concrete dam are briefly introduced. Concrete strength theory including uniaxial strength, biaxial strength and triaxial strength is summerized. According to different versions of concrete arch dam design standard, uniaxial strength, biaxial strength and triaxial strength criterion are applied to Xiluodu Arch Dam safety evaluation with subentry coefficient method and safety factor method. The results that have been analysed show that different strength criterion would give different safety degree. Compared with safety degree from multiaxial strength, safety degree from uniaxial strength is lower than multiaxial compressive stress states while higher than multiaxial tensile-compressive stress states. Besides, there is some differences between the safety degree in biaxial strength and triaxial strength. Furthermore, the results from subentry coefficient method and safety factor method are different because of different impacting factors considered. The necessity and recommendations of selecting reasonable strength on concrete dam safety evaluation are presented.
