Innovative High Performance Steel Girders for Highway Bridges
Under certain conditions, high performance steel (HPS) bridge girder designs are controlled by design limits that are not influenced by steel strength, and, thus, the use of HPS may be uneconomical. Innovative bridge girders have been proposed to overcome these design limits. The paper focuses on I-shaped girders with corrugated webs and I-shaped girders with tubular flanges. Design criteria are proposed and limited design studies showing some advantages of these innovations are presented.
