Seismic Modification to the Butt Valley Dam
This paper presents a discussion of the investigations, design, and construction of a seismic modification to the Butt Valley Dam, part of the Upper North Fork Feather River Project, FERC Project No. 2105-CA, which is owned and operated by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The seismic modification work was required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) after results of a seismic stability analysis using seismic parameters obtained from an updated seismicity study show that the dam is unstable under seismic loading condition.
