Analysis of Lateral Load Tests on Step Tapered Bored Piles in Calcareous Sands
The behavior of laterally loaded step tapered bored piles in calcareous sand was examined by field tests. Tests were carried out on straight and step tapered bored piles 5.3 m long embedded 5 m below ground level. All tests were carried out to failure to examine the ultimate lateral capacity, and the deflection at working loads. Test results indicate non linear response and substantial increase in lateral capacity and decrease of deflections at working loads for the step tapered piles compared with the straight shaft piles.
