Shear Tests on Reconstituted Oostvaardersplassen Clay
The mechanical properties of Dutch organic clays have to date not been systematically investigated. Emphasis until fairly recently was on c', φ' determined from the Dutch Cell Test. From triaxial tests, much higher c', φ' are obtained, and these are also well above what would be expected for "text-book" clays. This fact induced a research program into the shear properties of such clays, and the first results are presented here. A general survey of the shear properties of reconstituted Oostvaardersplassen clay is given. Effects of overconsolidation, compression versus extension, temperature and rate of shearing were investigated. Results were interpreted in the framework of the critical state theory.
