A Case History of Grouting at Logan Martin Dam
Logan Martin Dam was constructed from 1960 to 1964. During the initial filling of the reservoir, muddy boils began to appear downstream. These boils were monitored closely. In April of 1968, a chimney sinkhole developed on the downstream slope of the east dike approximately 122 meters east of the concrete spillway abutment. Since that time, numerous grouting programs have taken place to improve dam stability and to try to minimize seepage through the dam foundation. This paper will give a brief synopsis of the history of the grouting program. This synopsis will include the different grouting philosophies, techniques, and equipment utilized throughout this timeframe.
