Free Flow Immediately Below Sluice Gates
Based on the results of an experimental study, it has been found that the water surface profiles, immediately below sluice gates in rectangular channels, are similar. The coefficient of contraction has been found to be larger than the theoretically predicted value and it is not possible to attribute this difference to boundary layer effects alone. The pressure field in the converging flow has been measured and the dimensionless excess pressure on the bed has been correlated with the dimensionless longitudinal distance from the gate.
