The Proposed New York and New Jersey Vehicular Tunnel
The purpose of this discussion is to call attention to some of the reasons for constructing a vehicular tunnel to connect New York and New Jersey, and to discuss the merits of the various types of tunnels proposed. Before proceeding, however, it might be well to state that, although the construction of a bridge across the Hudson River had been agitated for many years, it was not until 1906 that any official action was taken by the States of New York and New Jersey.
