Value of Landsat in Urban Water Resources Planning
Bayesian decision theory was used to study the economic value of Landsat data in urban water resources planning. The investigation focused upon a case study of the Fourmile Run watershed. Land cover data were required to aid in the selection of an optimal level of onsite detention storage to mitigate flood damages. An estimate of the percentage of impervious area was needed to determine the parameters of the hydrologic simulation model utilized in generating flood frequency information. Preposterior Bayesian analysis indicated that computer-aided analysis of Landsat data was a highly cost-effective method for determining the percentage of impervious area.
