Seismic Design Criteria for Reinforcement Anchorages at Interior RC Beam-Column Joints
The requirements for the anchorage of beam longitudinal reinforcement at interior beam-column joints in earthquake-resistant RC moment-resisting frames are reevaluated. An introductory comparison of international design criteria shows that a broad disparity currently exists between these requirements. The suitability of existing criteria was assessed by assembling a database of more than 90 interior beam-column joint tests and comparing the assessed test performance with the performance that was predicted by each design criterion. This comparison showed that none of the existing design criteria were adequately able to predict experimental performance. To improve the design of earthquake-resistant RC frame structures, an improved design criterion was developed by parametrically determining the influence of important variables on anchorage performance.
