Determination of Water Use by Phreatophytes and Hydrophytes
Evapotranspiration from arrowweed, saltbush, and cattail, and evaporation from bare soil with depths of 2 ft to 4 ft of water, were measured in evaporimeters of 100 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft along the lower Colorado River. Preliminary results show uses of 5.0 ft to 9.0 ft per yr for arrowweed, 2.5 ft to 4.0 ft per yr for saltbush, approximately 8.5 ft per yr for cattail and 0.3 ft to 0.9 ft per yr for bare soil. Related meteorological data are included.
