Achieving Karst Aquifer Protection within a Regulatory Framework
Federal and State regulations are not specifically written to account for the special aquifer conditions present in a karst terrane. As such, specifications to investigate aquifer characteristics, establish ground water monitoring programs, and/or conduct remedial actions are at risk of being ineffective. Site specific and aquifer specific measures must be taken by regulatory agencies to properly perform ground water monitoring and protection in karst areas, and still maintain the regulatory framework.
