Practical River Laboratory Hydraulics
The science of laboratory hydraulics as applied to determinations of problems relating to the control of rivers is of only recent origin, although hydraulic experiments of other kinds have been common for many years. Since the beginning of the Twentieth Century, however, considerable progress has been made, and while much still remains to be learned of limiting laws and conditions, it appears, nevertheless, that the time has come to take stock of the practical information available.
It is the purpose of this paper to summarize, as briefly as possible, existing data and to describe proven methods applicable to the solution of river hydraulics problems in the laboratory. By so doing, it should serve as a basis of procedure for the laboratory technician and as a guide to the field engineer who wishes to know what specific types of problems may be reasonably subjected to laboratory treatment.
