City is a product of the combination of ancient and modern development. For urban studies, we need to explore the origins and characteristics of city from the historical roots. This article take Zhenjiang as an example, the method of Diehen Yingzao proposed by Professor Zhao Bing was used to exploring the history of urban construction in Zhenjiang. On this basis, combined with the advanced GIS technologies, we can be guided in all aspects of urban research, such as how to apply and deal with large amounts of historical data. Afterwards, we can more precise to study cities, and extract the information we need to facilitate our future research.
