Evaluation and Strengthening of Existing Wood Framed Structure
Structural assessment and evaluations were performed for the boathouse storage facility located at Lake Ridge Marina. The Lake Ridge Boathouse facility is a single-story wood framed structure. While the project was initiated from the wood decay observed at several wooden posts, the scope expanded to the other primary structural members including footings, floor framing members, roof trusses, exterior walls, and even the global structural stability of the structure due to the lateral loads. A series of structural analyses were performed to evaluate the capacity of the structural members due to the gravity loads and the lateral loads. Numerous repair and strengthening methods were applied to the existing structure. These included footing and wood column replacements, floor strengthening, new shear wall construction, steel rod cross bracing, roof truss strengthening, roof truss bracing, mezzanine railing, and reconstruction of the storage units.
