Effect of Concentration on Sediment Distribution
A theoretical expression for the concentration distribution of suspended material was presented by Rouse (2).3 Two approximations in this theory have been considered experimentally and explained, but have not been incorporated into a more complete theory. The conditions assumed negligible in Rouse's theory are the effect of suspended material on the velocity distribution, and hence the turbulent diffusion coefficient, and the effect of concentration on the terminal fall velocity of the sediment particles. It is the latter effect which is treated herein.
