Analysis of Strong Motion Records from Reinforced-Concrete Buildings
This paper examines the sensitivity of the motions obtained at non-instrumented floors by piece-wise cubic-spline interpolation procedure to the location of instrumented floors. It is found that the cubic-spline interpolation procedure may be used to accurately predict motions at non-instrumented floors of buildings with approximately uniform height-wise distribution of stiffness if the instrumented floors are distributed at regular intervals over the building height. For buildings with very-stiff or very-soft condition at few stories, this interpolation procedure may lead to poor prediction of motions at non-instrumented floors. For such buildings other means of interpolation such as a combination of linear-cubic interpolation should be used.
