Hood Canal Floating Bridge East Half Replacement Graving Dock
As part of a major project to both retrofit and replace the east half of the Hood Canal Floating Bridge, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is constructing a permanent 4.04-hectare (10-acre) graving dock in Port Angeles, Washington. The graving dock provides a facility for the construction of 190,000 square feet (17,650 square meters) of concrete pontoons and twenty 46- to 60-foot (14 to 18 m) diameter gravity anchors needed for the replacement of the east half of the Hood Canal Floating Bridge. The two-level graving dock consists of a 735-foot x 460-foot (224 m x 140 m) upper level slab at elevation +10.00 feet (3 m) and a 170-foot x 460-foot (52 m x 140 m) lower slab at elevation –15.5 feet (–4.7 m). These two slabs are surrounded, except at the gate, by a sheet pile wall with a top at elevation +28.00 feet (8.5 m).
