Design of Steel Deck Pavement of Medium- or Small-Span Cities Girder Steel Bridge
Mechanical analysis of medium or small-span girder steel bridge deck pavement was completed using a finite element method to analyze the effects of loading conditions on the steel deck pavement system. The results show that overloading and braking result in unfavorable interlayer shear stresses. Interlayer maximum shear stress increases by 141% at the turning sections of the pavement and the pavement structure design in these turning sections and on large slopes should consider an interlayer shear stress index. Then the design indicators and standards for asphalt pavement design were proposed based on the mechanical analysis. Performance requirements of pavement materials and waterproof adhesive material and design principles and suggestions of pavement structure combinations were provided for medium or small-span girder steel bridge deck pavement. Tests were conducted on sections on the Changji East Road Bridge in Shanghai. Based on the research results a reference value for the design of steel deck pavement of medium or small-span girder steel bridge can be obtained.
