Buckling Load and Post-Buckling Behavior of Tapered Column with Constant Volume, Regular Polygon Cross-Section and Both Clamped Ends
Numerical methods are developed for calculating the buckling load and obtaining the elastica of tapered column with regular polygon cross-section and both clamped ends, whose material volume and span length are always held constant. The differential equations governing the buckled shape of such column are derived and solved numerically. As the numerical results, the equilibrium paths and the buckling loads are reported. Also the strongest columns by taper type and cross-sectional shape are identified.
