Numerical Simulation of Sediment Transport and Scouring around Hydraulic Structures on Rivers
In this study, we modified and applied an open source CFD software package, the TELEMAC, to study the sediment transport and scouring processes around Gangjeong Weir on Nakdong River in South Korea. The simulations have been carried out with the real weir and river bathymetry. We particularly have studied the effect of grain size distributions on bed evolutions, and taken into account the flood return periods to evaluate the maximum potential erosion around the hydraulic structures caused by floods. An agreement between numerical result and observation shows the ability of the model to predict maximum potential scoured depths near hydraulic structures.
