Finite Element Solution for General Fluid Motion
General hydrodynamic equations of the same form as the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are numerically solved by a variational method based on a quasi-linear variational principle. The finite element decomposition results in a simple linear matrix system that is readily solved by standard first order numerical methods. A pseudo-iterative procedure is used to accommodate the basic nonlinearity of the equations of motion.
